Self Care Is Not Being Selfish
Being a Self Care Giver means taking care of yourself while also considering the needs of others. It's about finding a balance between Self Care and caring for those around you.
A Self Care Giver recognizes the importance of taking time for themselves and understands that this benefits everyone in the long run.
On the other hand, being Selfish means putting your own needs before anyone else's and without consideration for the impact it may have on others.
Selfishness is often driven by an egotistical desire for personal gain and gratification; it is often associated with Self Centeredness.
If oxygen masks were deployed on an airplane, a Self Care Giver would put on their mask first and then assist others; as demonstrated in preflight.
After Selfish person put on their oxygen mask, they would not be of assistance to others unless it benefited them.
Breaking the Stigma
Some people feel guilty or ashamed for taking time out for themselves. This can be especially true for Care Givers who may feel that they need to put the needs of their loved ones before their own.
We shift from a Self Centered point of view to a Centered Self experience when we begin to realize we are capable of taking care of others when our needs our met.
Self Care Givers are in a better position to be of service to others and can even encourage them to prioritize their own Self Care program.
